Last Friday afternoon was our first visit since the new ownership and change in name as well as change in curbside appeal (i.e., no more vintage signs in the lot next door). We were happy to learn the menu remains unchanged!
We sat at the bar where we had great service and met one of the new owners. We really enjoyed the shrimp-topped deviled eggs (Hubby's favorite), filet mignon chili, made-to-order filet mignon burger with fries, and some draft beers. All was delicious! We took home some leftovers and even ordered an extra chili to go. I greatly appreciated the care taken in packing our to-go items.
Highly recommend checking it out especially at an off time given the somewhat limited parking and restaurant size. -

The Turf Club is the place to go for a unique dining experience in Cincinnati! The pictures really don't do this place justice-- the neon signs illuminate the room in a warm, red light, and many have local significance. We were a little hesitant to participate in the whole throw-the-peanut-shells-on-the-ground deal, but it really is part of the atmosphere. And kinda fun!
We shared the filet mignon chili, which comes in a small dish but is really packed with flavor. The burgers are affordable at baseline, but can get expensive if you want to add more than a few toppings. Though I enjoyed exercising my creativity, I wish I had suggestions for topping parings! Perhaps next time I'll read some reviews for inspiration. -

The erstwhile Terry's Turf Club is under new management, but all of the overstuffed interior and neon signs are still there. I recognized a couple of defunct breweries represented in the collection.
DLW and I squeezed into the shoeshine booth in the corner and munched on peanuts while taking in the sights. Burgers are the thing to get here, and I had the house version with the standard toppings, cooked medium as it should be. Classic burgers are hard to improve upon. DLW found the crab and lobster cake just okay, but where else are you going to find this item for $10, with béarnaise no less?
It's always hot, it's always crowded, it's always noisy. That's why people like it. -

Ok I'll start with the welcome. A young lady (who was having a bad day) greeted us on arrival. She smashed her foot moments before we arrived but you wouldn't have known it if they didn't say anything about it. Another gentleman took us inside and sat us at our table. This was our second visit so we knew what we were in store for. Amazing food great service not by just the same one person but everyone in the place stopped by to check on us. The amount of food can be overwhelming but worth an overfilling dinner. Plenty of fresh draft beer choices many local selections. Definitely worth the stop. Like I said my second visit but several more to come.

I held off reviewing "The Turf Club" as I was expecting them to close. After all of the drama last year, I was surprised to find that Terry lived, albeit without his name and new ownership.
The Turf Club is hard to find if you're not familiar with the area, but when you get there, you'll know. There's a hill full of neon signs from the past 50 years, revving you up for what's inside. I've been told that the signs are slowing being taken out as they were not sold with the restaurant. Truth be told, I was never a huge fan of all the lights. This is coming from a girl that gets excited over anything remotely shiny. For me, it was excessive. A few kitschy items here and there really add to the experience but it becomes tired and overwhelming quickly.
To add to that, the restaurant is small. If you don't like being in other people's business, you may want to avoid. I've had the unfortunate luck of sitting next to Chatty Cathy on numerous occasions. Don't get me wrong - I'm a talker and enjoy conversing, but sometimes I'm just there for the burger.
You'd think the menu would be straightforward, but the fact that it's not is what gets people to stay. In addition to items such as their filet mignon chili and scallops, their burgers are famous for being ridiculously creative. The ridiculous creations are all to each's own as well. You can be simple and get a bacon cheeseburger or go as far fetched as blue cheese and liver pate. In most burger-centric DIY places, I stick to the same types of ingredients (mushrooms, onion, maybe some avocado and/or egg, and bacon). At Turf Club, I've never made the same burger twice. Their sauce menu is impressive in itself. I am a sauce queen and damn proud of it. The sauces are so creative and different you can't help but try multiple of them. I actually don't have a favorite - they're all extremely inventive.
The burgers are the star of the show, and the sides make sure it stays that way. I think their onion rings are better than the fries. That's saying something because I am a fries over everything type of gal. The burgers are large and a meal in itself, that unless you want to spend an extra $10 and try every sauce on the menu, a side isn't really needed. They're kind of limp and if they're fresh I wouldn't have known.
Side issues aside, Turf Club is a solid place to get a burger. It's been a mainstay on top lists, tv shows and everything in between. I'm positive the new owners will do their best to keep everything that people love about the place the same. If you find yourself hankering a burger or in the area, I'd recommend slowing down to find the neon playground and grabbing a bite to eat.
